Meet the Author

Emily Bascom started reading Mills & Boon novels at the age of fourteen—which gave her a somewhat unrealistic idea of what to expect from boys her age, but stood her in good stead in the long run. When she was a child she wanted to be Robin Hood or D'Artagnan. Now she wants to be Eowyn from Lord of the Rings.

She has been vegetarian since the age of nine, and her hobbies (apart from writing) are reading, watching films, travel, horse riding, giving dinner parties where she wows the guests with her sparkling witticisms, and sleep. She makes cakes for all occasions, often to request, and occasionally biscuits, too.

She loves tea above most things.

During her time at Royal Holloway, University of London, Emily gained a degree in English and drama and wrote several plays of varying lengths, many of which were performed for the student workshop. She was a founding member and resident writer of the now-retired Bare Boards theater company, which enjoyed one professional production in 2003. After this brief affair with theater, however, she returned to writing novels. She has read everything that Virginia Woolf has ever written, and maintains that every parent should buy A Room Of One's Own for each daughter they have.

Emily lives in London with a handsome Trinidadian, whom she forces on a regular basis to cook her Quorn korma and rotis that not even Brick Lane can rival. They met working for London Underground, where their eyes met across a crowded ticket gate, and he seduced her without her noticing until it was far too late. After three years together, she supposes it is would be useless to protest now.

Eventually she lefttheUnderground and is now a graduate-entry medical student at the end of her first year at an excellent teaching hospital in London. She hopes one day to become a doctor—her tenuous grasp of science permitting.

Emily is in her mid-twenties and hopes to live until she is old enough to get away with bad behaviour in public. She loves babies but hates people who don't say thank-you.

    Excellent

This was an excellent read, held my interest to the end. It was so sad because Lily's family all died last was her Brother who was killed in the war but he set up a guardianship with his friend. Westhaven and Lily clashed at first. Highly Recommend!!!!
