Overview

Writing a standout personal statement will never be stress free, but it can be less stressful. Whether you're a student wondering how you can tell colleges all the right things in 500 words, or you're a parent wondering how you can help your son or daughter through the writing process without driving each other crazy, the secrets you need to know are all in this book.

A standout personal statement is not so much about your being unique as it is about telling your story in a unique way. And when it comes to telling a story, what could be better than capitalizing on the secrets of Hollywood filmmakers---secrets you've already learned while you were enjoying your favorite films? This book takes those secrets, and the seemingly insurmountable task of writing a personal statement, and breaks them all down into 15-minute steps. Each step includes clear instructions, checkpoints, and examples to help you make every word count.

When you're done you'll have a personal that shows what makes you different from the thousands of other applicants vying for those coveted spots at the colleges on your list.

The personal statement is your only opportunity to tell colleges about you in your own words. This book helps you and your parents work together to find the words that will make them want you.
