The author tells an inspirational story of how he recovered from a serious chronic illness with faith in God and perseverance. He was led to make dietary changes based on God's principles for nutrition. He espouses that adapting the Makers Diet can improve your health and quality of life. Although I found making some dietary changes difficult, the changes I have made thus far have improved my health and encouraged me to strengthen my spiritual walk with God.

I bought the book. I followed the diet but made a few changes. I don't buy the author's products nor do I purchase only organic products. I do what I can within my own budget and it still works. I lost weight and felt better.

I first heard of the Maker's Diet while recouperating from surgery in September. A friend told me she had seen Jordan Rubin on tv talking about The Maker's Diet and what it had done for him. I am health conscious so I ordered the book and studied it. I had been on a vegan diet for 7 months to lower my cholesterol (my physician wanted me to go on medication and laughed when I said I wanted to try to lower it through diet & exercise), which not only lowered my cholesterol, but also lowered my high blood pressure so that I was able to go off blood pressure medication. I lost weight and felt wonderful. It was quite easy for me to adapt to the Maker's Diet as it afforded me to eat more foods than my vegan diet, many of which I had really missed. Also, I enjoy the spirituality of the lifestyle as well. As a matter of fact, the only thing I could find wrong with the program is that it should be called "The Maker's Lifestyle" as it is much more than a diet. I went on the program, thoroughly enjoyed it. I stayed on it through Thanksgiving, at which time all our dinner guests enjoyed a purely organic dinner! As Christmas approached, I totally fell off the wagon and began eating things that I knew weren't good for me. Now I feel sluggish, I feel awful after eating, have no energy, and have lots of aches. My husband (who has not followed the program, but due to circumstances beyond his control, has been eating mostly organic foods) made a comment to a friend the other day that he felt so much better when we were eating healthier. "The Maker's LIFESTYLE" is awesome and God honoring...I am going to do a cleanse and start over from the beginning. I have promoted the program to all my friends and can hardly wait to feel good again. Thank you Jordan!

I love this book. It was awesome. This book contained information that I had been searching for many years. The accusations that the book is a scam to sell the author's products are absurd. Dr. Rubin has always provided contact information for companies that he is not affiliated with. He provides the contact information that is needed to purchase a number of different types of products which are all natural and the majority of which are organic. I see no scam here. I can also say that the Maker's Diet makes me feel better than I ever have. I don't even catch the flu anymore, which I used to get all the time.

This is definatly an alternative to the sick and dying society in which we support. Reading this book was one of several avenues I used to educate myself in caring for my body, mind, and soul. I had my first major blood clot 'brain' at age 21 and another serious one 'lung' at 28. There are many things I learned from Dr. Rubin. I did not feel pressured to use the Garden of Life Suppliments nor did I feel the book to be a 'scam'. You don't have to follow or even believe all that you read, but certainly learn from others experiences. I would never discourage anyone from reading this source and applying it to their own life. Life is about balance. You have to educate yourself and discern what you learn to fit your own situation.

Althought the maker's diet promotes low or no carb consumption, don't let that fool you. That is only a part of this wonderful diet. Most important, it understands and promotes the consumption of organic foods free of pesticides, hormones and antibiotics, all of which are the real enemy. Dr. Jordon really understands the subject and gives a great alternative. Additionally, it recommends you be spiritual by praying and that you exercise. It is a real fun diet. However, there were some things about aromatherapy and other terms I did not understand, but still, I've got the essence and I am hooked. Thank you and bless you.

There are several derogatory reviews for this book, and I have to wonder what book were those people reading? I have several different incurable and invisible illnesses, and I can tell you from my experience with reading other books, this one is different. As for the reviews where it's said that they diet is just like other books, well no it's not. You're not only advised to eliminate all pork, you're also advised to eliminate all scaleless seafood. There are also other restrictions on your food sources and things like not using vinegar to ferment foods. You're even given restrictions on heating honey.. something I haven't seen in other books.  It does to a completely different approach from other books. The Maker's Diet is based off of the food restrictions God gives in Leviticus and Deuteronomy. And yes, Jordan Rubin encourages you to use The Garden of Life supplements. Why? Because they are specifically formulated with God's restrictions in mind, and they have the certifications to prove it. If you take the time to research the products, you can see why they're encouraged so much. But you don't have to use them. I use supplements from a different company, and I've had extraordinary results. And as for the back pages in the book.. the man is giving you a reference guide to find companies by state or that sell products online. He doesn't own the companies. You don't have to use them! Do your own research and find local farmers and businesses in your area! It's not a scam at all when you take the initiative to do your own research. This book is AMAZING. I've been sick my entire life. I've never known anything else. It's only been a few weeks of following The Maker's Diet, but already I'm getting better. My body is healing, and my specialists are astounded. This diet, using oils, using supplements.. all from quality sources mind you.. it's all changing my life! I can leave the house now, I can drive the car, I can take care of my children and be a wife. This is life changing! But it does require a lifestyle change. You have to commit to it!  I am so thankful for finding this book. Give it a chance. It will change your life and your health. I'm walking proof of that and so are countless others.

The book was so good that I insisted my wife read it. After that, I gave it to a friend. We liked what we've learned from this book. And today, we all have better diets because of this book. We couldn't afford to follow all of the advice, though some is better than none.

You have got to be a little suspicious when a diet book that claims to be 'God's answer' to a better life comprises of 198 pgs of poorly referenced, barely hypothetical justification 32 pgs dedicated to describing an eating plan not disimilar to ALL others on the market (ie. dont eat junk food / eat more organic) and 50+ pgs providing sales information for receipe ingredients, overpriced supplements & homeopathic oils. The author of this book is the founder of the Garden of Life company, which in most instances is the only company listed to provide the 'healing products' the diet requires to be successful (which by the way is not recognized by the FDA). Ironically, for a book that claims to be an 'inspired work', its a little disconcerting that emphasis is put on ritual instead of faith and man-made supplements instead of God's bounty. This book is nothing more than a marketing strategy of a very intelligent business owner.

I was fortunate enough to get an advanced copy of the Maker¿s Diet in the Fall of 2003. This 40 Day Experience was freeing from things I didn¿t even know were hanging over my head. I had energy I didn¿t realize I should have, my moods stayed more even, my skin was clearer and glowing and I was able to fall asleep and stay asleep through the night. About 3 weeks into the 40 Days I was at work doing a project I had waded through before and I realized that this time things were going easier, because I was able to think more clearly. Eliminating the chemicals and hormones from my diet and keeping the nutrients I needed balanced allowed me to remember and recall more information than I had before. I actually commented to a co-worker that I had no idea I was so smart. I have recommended Jordan¿s book to members of my family and my friends who have all seen amazing results. Until you try it, you can¿t possibly know how freeing it is to change your diet not for weight loss but over all health. Instead of focusing on losing something, you can look to what you are gaining ¿ health. However, if the idea of possible weight loss could motivate you to try the Maker¿s Diet, I went from a size 10-12 pants to a size 4 during the 40 Days and my dad has lost 14 lbs during Phases 1 and 2.

Don't be so pessimistic...If you had actually read the book, you would know that the diet does not 'require' you to buy the particular supplements that Garden Of Life sells, they are simply recommended. This is a great book that shows the proper way to incorporate a Mediterranean/biblical diet into a regular lifestyle.

This is a very encouraging book and the story about the author is amazing. There are a lot of facts on how food effects our bodies and it also covers other issues that effect us too. I'm already ordering more books for family members.

Here are the facts. 4 years ago I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. The prescription givin to me was Colazal which offered some relief. I was taking 9-10 'each' capsules a day at about $500.00 a month! My Doctor said there was little hope for recovery and I will probably get worse. Four months ago my wife bought me The Makers Diet. I scoffed at it but reluctantly started to read it. I became facinated with his adventure. Two weeks into the 'Diet' I noticed my need for Colazal wasnt there. As of August 03, 2007 I have been off Colazal for 2 months! Let me say it again, I have been off Colazal for 2 months with no complications. I spoke to my Doctor last week to share the news and he was astounded! We spoke about 1/2 hr. and he left from the room and immediatly got on the phone and told someone everything I said. Thats is my testimony. Good luck

I can¿t recommend this book enough- following the health plan in the Maker¿s Diet has restored health and hope to my husband and me. It has literally changed the way we do life- in every aspect. The first part of the book is a comprehensive explanation as to the way that our bodies work, and how we are killing them through our lifestyles! After reading this book, I felt quite convicted that it had taken a serious illness before I invested a passing thought in the consequences of my diet, my hygiene, exercise, etc¿ My husband and I are sleeping better, feeling so much more energetic, and my illness is 85% healed! We feel like we are investing in our futures- our future health, and the health of our children. We want to be living in vibrant health until our dying day- and we know we are on the right track with the health plan offered in the Maker¿s Diet!

The Maker¿s Diet is the most balanced book I¿ve ever read concerning the topic of health and wellness. Over the past 15 years I¿ve read so many books that give guidelines on how to stay healthy, or become healthy. The books have ranged from focusing on the physical, emotional or spiritual, but very few have incorporated all three parts. The Maker¿s Diet presents a holist approach and therefore gives insight into how to make it a part of your entire life, it doesn¿t just address eating. Most books present a plan that is extremely difficult to maintain for any period of time because they are so far from how most of us are accustomed to living and eating. I believe that The Maker¿s Diet gives a wonderful common sense approach to living. What I especially like about The Maker¿s Diet is that it is founded on the Bible. I believe that it is no accident that what God told the Israelites what to eat and what not to eat, so many thousands of years ago, still applies to all of us today, regardless of your spirituality. I encourage everyone to not only read this book, but to incorporate the principles into your life. It is a must read for those searching for health, as well as a balanced lifestyle.
