Meet the Author

François Nars was born in the South of France and attended the Carita Makeup School in Paris. He moved to New York in 1984 and debuted his first line of lipsticks a decade later at Barneys New York. Nars is the current president and creative director of NARS Cosmetics.

    Great pictures - can't read the print

    This book has a great layout - over a hundred close-up shots of the face with a plastic sheet over each one indicating where the make-up up is placed on the face. The text is interesting as well - if you can read it without getting a headache. I have perfect vision but the print is such a light gray color that even if you are under a hundred watt lightbulb you begin to strain your eyes in order to read it. It's really annoying.

    LOVED it

    You know, I had been looking for a real nice makeup book for a while. I'm not a professional, I'm just a teenage girl with a cosmetic obsession. I am also a teenage girl without a job, so I spend my money carefully. I had seen this book online, but it's reviews weren't that great. Being a fan of Nars, I decided to go to my Barnes and Noble and take a look at it myself. After flipping through the pages for five minutes, I was convinced this book was a must have. It has before and after pictures, and plastic sheets over the after pictures indicating where and how the makeup was applied. Nars explains everything from how the makeup should be applied, to how to clean the brushes when your done. Spiral bound, complete in a nifty plastic book slip, it's appealing to the eye. If you like Nars, GET THIS BOOK. If you like makeup, GET THIS BOOK. If you find yourself being held back by other's not so enthusiastic reviews, shoot over to B&N and take a look for yourself.     Helpful and more in depth-with actual products.

    Makeup books are pretty common, and they always give you an idea of shades. Well, Francois tells you how to apply it, where to apply it, and the actual products/shades used. Plain and simple, but really good techniques and rich pigments. There are inspiring pictures, and before and after shots of each person. I like the clear sheets used over photos, which give you a better idea of how the looks were created.
