Children's Literature
As soon as several children saw the inviting cover of this wonderful book, they wanted to jump right in and make some of the projects. That is exactly what we did, with very satisfying results. Using reasonably priced fleece material and basic sewing notions such as needles, pins, and thread, and fabric glue, it is easy to whip up mittens, headbands, beanbag animals, blankets, and even slouchy slipper socks. There is an introductory chapter about basic sewing stitches that also explains how to thread a needle and knot the thread. It is very user-friendly. There is a photograph of each project that shows what the finished product is meant to look like, and the steps are illustrated and clearly laid out in a two-page spread. There are patterns to trace for some things, like the fleecy frog and the jester's hat, and some ideas for decorative edging and appliqué. For the beginning craft enthusiast, there are projects like scarves and blankets that need no sewing at all. Ideal for a wide range of ages and skills, this treasure of a book will ensure many hours of pleasurable creativity. 2000, Nelvana/Kids Can Press,
