Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
The metal beads in these step-by-step projects are tiny works of art involving all the techniques of the jeweler's craft. Warg, a veteran metalsmith and teacher, shows how beads can be made from scratch or commercial beads may be modified for original projects. Photos of jewelry pieces by other artists are included throughout as inspiration. This specialized book for experienced jewelry crafters is suitable for academic or public library collections. A definite must-have!

This book includes wonderfully detailed, step-by-step procedures for creating spectacular metal beads. A recommended nest step for beading and metal clay artists. This book is a good introduction into metal forming techniques starting with the basics of sawing, drilling, finishing processes, piercing, soldering, etc. It also includes instruction on chasing, reticulation, and more! Lists are provided for the tools and supplies needed to complete each project. As added bonus there are graphics throughout, showcasing various artists' works, providing the reader with a spectacular reference to develop their own personal ideas.

    I Also Recommend:

This is one of the best books for beginning to intermediate metal smiths.

I've used this book while attending a college level metal arts class and find it very informative and practical. It's also a very inspirational book with great illustrations and a wonderful gallery of designs by well known jewelry artists.

This book is for the serious student, so if you are purchasing it as a gift for someone who wants to make jewelery, make sure they are interested in metal forming, sawing, using a torch, etc.

The designs are beautiful and definitely do-able. I have a lot of jewelery making books at home and this is one of the most useful.

    more from this reviewer

    Refreshingly different!

I'm obsessed with jewelry "How To" books. Most of them cover the same techniques- with an individual spin. As a novice jewelry artist, I can't get enough of it.
Pauline Warg has shown me how to do something refreshingly different! I am inspired by the challenge of making my own metal beads. I can't say if my beads will come close to the beautiful beads Pauline Warg or the contributers to her book have made but the clear step by step instructions and the accompanying photos give me the confidence to try.
Confidence & Inspiration...What more can you ask for from a "How To" book?
