Overview

All Shane Perkins ever wanted to be was a hero. But after a career-shattering decision to go down fighting, Shane comes home from the hospital to four empty walls, a pile of money, and a burning desire for someone to miss him the next time he gets hurt in the line of duty. He ends up an officer in the small town of Levee Oaks, and, addicted to the promise of family, he makes an effort to reconcile with his flighty, troubled sister. Kimmy makes her living as a dancer, and her partner steals Shane's breath at first sight. Mikhail Vasilyovitch Bayul dances like an angel, but his past is less than heavenly. Since he left Russia, he's made only two promises: to stay off the streets and stay clean, and to take his mother someplace beautiful before she dies. Making promises to anybody else is completely out of the question--but then, Mikhail has never met anybody like Shane. Earnest, brave, and self-deprecating, Shane seems to speak Mikhail's language, and no one is more surprised than Mikhail to find that keeping promises is Shane's best talent of all.

Perfectly imperfect characters make up this series. I am finding it to be sexy, entertaining, dramatic, humorous and altogether one of my favorite reads. I am so glad the author is keeping the books lengthy and not shortening them. It makes them even a better value for the money! I am also very happy that there are still 2 books in the series because I just love all these characters and how the author intertwines their stories is really well done.

Amy Lane has been a busy lady this year!!!! She has happily kept me busy reading this summer with a some magical short stories and now the a sequel to Keeping Promise Rock. We are brought back to Levee Oaks, and to Shane Perkins. If you read the first story, he is one of the towns police officers we met, who believed in the Pulpit and its people and became `family' at Deacon and Cricks Sunday dinner table. We now learn about his past. He was 10 yrs on the force, ready to make detective. He was outed as gay by his partner and lover. He was set up by his brother officers with no backup, and was critically injured. The department `paid' a large sum of money, to cover up this situation. Shane was a rich man, in money, but still felt the need to be needed and joined the force in Levee Oaks. We meet his sister Kimmy, who we learn has her own baggage. She travels the circuit, of Renaissance Faires and lives with a loser and druggie Kurt. Shane travels a few towns over to see her dance as the faire comes to a nearby town. It is there Shane meets Mikhail Vasilyovitch Bayul. This is their story. Mikhail and Shane have put themselves out there for this relationship. Shanes desire to woo this man , Mikhail who is so lost, he has no self worth at all. The Making and Keeping of Promises is not new to us as the reader, but to Mikhail it makes Shane his Lubime... Making Promises is a great visit to see how our friends in Levee Oaks are. Babies have been born and are growing up. New stories are out there for our author to draw ...Who will Kimmy and Benny meet ?? Is there a HEA for Jeff???? And most of all our author has given us a brand new word for Beloved . Wonderful read Amy Lane!!! Review by Gloria Lakritz Senior Reviewer Paranormal Romance Guild
