Overview

Mama Is Still Here! Is a true story of an educated and accomplished African-American woman who was raised in the state of Mississippi between the 1940’s and 1960’s. Daisy, a wife, mother, and everyone’s favorite sister, aunt, and friend, is admired for her swagger and confidence. But she finds her life spiraling out of control because of impaired memory lapses due to Alzheimer’s disease. The devastating diagnosis crushed Daisy and her husband’s world, and the world of their adult children. Initially, the way each family member connected to her was at some level of denial and/or anger. The author, Daisy’s son, shares their story and his personal grief. The author also shares his observations and the memory of his mother before and after Alzheimer’s diagnosis. The scriptures and prayers at the end of the chapters are a very nice touch, and the epigraphs are very successful at conveying the tone of each chapter.

Norris, you are an incredibly prolific writer and story teller.

Norris, you are an incredibly prolific writer and story teller. I found the book to be an informative page turner.
Once started it was difficult to put the book down. Daisy's Alzheimer's Journey in conjunction with the loving care she received from you &
your dad provides a real impactful insight into caregiving with love especially for CG's like me who are charged with every all consuming
aspect of my spouses care.  Your book brought to mind the adage about the plight of the caterpillar..."Just when the caterpillar thought the
world was over, she became a butterfly." Well, just when I felt the accumulated weight of years of caregiver anguish closing in around me
God, in his infinite wisdom, saw fit to orchestrate our Devine connection (Norris, Jeannie, my children, spouse, & I). Subsequent to our
introduction I knew that the Creator of the Universe preordained our meeting & that I would be the beneficiary of your acquired knowledge
through actual hands-on-experience of the pros & cons of caregiving for a loved one; applicable scriptures and inspirational prayers. My
husband sustained an anoxic brain injury due to sudden cardiac arrest. While he hasn't been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, some of his
symptoms parallel those of Alzheimer's (Dementia, short term memory loss, as well as intermittent long term memory loss, hallucinations,
incontinence, lack of self initiated personal hygiene, stubbornness, etc. Your book represents a Self Help How to Cope Blueprint for CG's.
I have already incorporated some of the scriptures & prayers into my daily CG routine. I specifically pray for strengthened tolerance,
patience...in the name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am forever transformed by your book & will carry the paperback edition
everywhere I go as a reference guide when I feel caught in the grips of anxiety.

Everyone should read this book whether you have Alzheimer's in your family or not.  This is a beautiful story of love and support in the face of extreme physical and mental adversity in the form of Alzheimer’s.  Dr. Roberts paints a vivid picture of the pain and struggle he faced when his strong, beautiful, intelligent rock of a mama was struck down with Alzheimer’s.  I learned a great deal about the progression of the disease and the different stages that the person experiences but also how it affects the loved ones around who are providing her care.  It offers practical application in the form of scripture and prayer at the end of each chapter.  I can’t comprehend how anyone can thrive much less survive this experience without faith in the Lord Jesus.  Thank you Dr. Norris Roberts for sharing your heart with the world.

An entertaining, informative and emotional quick read. I enjoyed this book and think it will provide needed encouragement for those with loved ones dealing with Alzheimer's. The author's deep love for his family can be felt as one thumbs through the pages. The integration of the scriptures is thoughtfully done. The author's mother definitely would be proud and she lives on through the pages of this work.

This is a MUST read for all! The book is well put together. The quotes, story, scriptures, and prayers were amazingly put together. I was often lost in the story and it seem as though I was there as the author unpacked the story. This book made me laugh, cry and really think! This book needs to be movie or at minimum a play. AWESOME!!!
