Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Mothers and babies--that is what this board book for newborns is all about. Lions nuzzle, monkeys groom, the koala carries her baby on her back, and a sea otter pup rides on mama's tummy. The poetic text is soothing and it affirms that special relationship between mothers and their babies. The realistic pictures will help kids with animal and habitat recognition and reinforce the caring parent child relationship. Part of the "Harper Growing Tree" series. 1999, HarperFestival, Ages 3 mo. to 2, $5.95. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
Library Journal
PreS-Softly colored double-page spreads feature realistic-looking animal mothers (lioness, leopard, chimpanzee, koala, panda, elephant, and sea otter) and their babies, while simple four-line rhymes celebrate the love and care they give to them: "Mama, Mama,/Play with me,/Carry me/So I can see" or "Mama, Mama,/Show the way,/I am learning/Every day." Most libraries with board-book collections will want at least one copy of this gentle tribute to mothers and their little ones.-Lisa Falk, Los Angeles Public Library Copyright 1999 Cahners Business Information.

This was a baby shower gift that is still a family favorite two years later! My daughter can almost quote it word for word. Now I give it for baby shower gifts!!!

At 4 months old, this was my daughters favorite book and at 15 months, she still loves it. As soon as we open it, she smiles. It's a very warm book showing the bond between mother and baby through animals. I highly recommend this book as well as all the books in the Harper Growing Tree series.

My 2y.o. daughter loves this book. It shows the loving relationship between mama and baby in a simple rythmic poem. It is just perfect. I am going to buy Papa Papa for my husband to read to her.I hope it is as special as Mama Mama.

My 10-month old daughter loves to have this book read over and over again. And if I'm not reading it, she will just look through it on her own. This book has a special way of emphasizing the mother/child bond with soothing, repetitive phrases. The illustrations are beautiful as well. I would highly recommend this book to new parents, or give it as a shower gift. It warms my heart every time my daughter and I read it.
