Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Abraham Velez

A young Celia Cruz and her Sonora Matancera offer up a novelty take on "Jingle Bells," while the Joe Loco Quintet lends the same tune a lighthearted Latin jazz treatment. Bill Darnel & The Smith Brothers "Wanna See Santa Do the Mambo" to their oddball and very Caucasian swing, while the bright-eyed, bilingual Christmas inquests of an excited young lad put the fun in Augie Rios's "Donde Está Santa Claus?" Likewise, Steve Allen and ...

Likewise, Steve Allen and Ricky Vera's TV spoof "How Can Santa Come to Puerto Rico?" would almost be an affront if it weren't so amazingly cute. Then there's Jimmy Boyd's randy rejoinder to seeing mommy kissing Santa Claus, "I Saw Mommy Do the Mambo With You Know Who." Add on the madcap, easy listening hijinks of Esquivel and a Mexican polka take complete with electric guitar on "Auld Lang Syne" and you've got more holiday kicks here than the bubbles in your champagne flute.
All Music Guide - Heather Phares
Mambo Santa Mambo: Christmas From the Latin Lounge gathers Latin-tinged holiday favorites like "Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane)" by the Skip-Jacks with Esquivel & His Orchestra, Billy May's "Snowfall Cha Cha," and the Frank Petty Trio's "Jingle Bells Mambo." Jimmy Boyd with Mitch Miller & His Orchestra's "I Saw Mommy Do the Mambo (With You Know Who)," Augie Rios' "Donde Esta Santa Claus? (Where Is Santa Claus?)," and Celia Cruz & Sonora Matancera's "Jingle Bells" are some of the other highlights from this spicy Christmas album.
