Editorial Reviews

VOYA
This book is nothing short of breathtakingly beautiful. It is more than informative; it is engaging and awe inspiring. The wildlife photography is top-notch and records the diverse world of mammals not only in their natural habitat but also in all their wonderful quirkiness. From aardvark to zorrillas (a polecat), this book covers the world in its search for every living mammal known to humankind. From the evidence of their complex prehistoric appearance to the alarming rate of their extinction, mammals are shown in all their wonder and mystery. The authors provide ample textual information to accompany the hundreds of pictures. They include classification charts, a glossary of important words, and an excellent index. In addition, they include a few pages on the role of mankind in the demise and conservation of mammals and comment on particulars throughout. Broken into sections by continent and by oceans and seas, the book offers readers clearly defined maps orienting them to the climate, terrain, and size of each area of the world. This information is especially helpful in understanding which mammals live and survive in certain conditions. From forests to wetlands, grassland plains, and mountains, the habitats of mammals are as diverse as the animals themselves. This reviewer cannot think of a reason not to have this book. Students doing projects in science and English will use it repeatedly, but its biggest fans will probably be those who just are fascinated with the natural world. Librarians would be wise to buy two. for older students

This book has a couple sensitive photos that younger students would find distracting and parents may not feel are appropriate.
