Mammographic Imaging: A Practical Guide is the definitive, and only comprehensive, text in mammography for radiologic technology and mammographic technology. Revised to include new content on the increasingly common fundamental technology in digital mammography, this book is a must-have resource for technologists who need to stay current in breast imaging, as well as students preparing to enter the field. A new, dynamic two-color design helps to more clearly outline the topics covered, while new pedagogical features and ancillaries make this edition ideal as a core education resource.

A companion website includes a registry exam-style question bank, image bank, PowerPoints, and case studies/situational judgment questions, plus instructor resources such as PowerPoint slides, lesson plans, an image bank, a test bank, and answers to the case studies/situational judgment questions.

Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Cristina Castro, BS (Froedtert Hospital)
Description: This clearly written, comprehensive guide to mammographic imaging is filled with helpful illustrations and explanations of new technologies.
Purpose: The purpose is to help technologists build their careers and stay current with new technologies in their field.
Audience: It is designed for students just entering the field as well as technologists who need to stay up to date. With its detailed information about new technologies and illustrations, it will help technologists do their job to their best ability. The authors' passion for the field is apparent.
Features: The book is very descriptive and does a good job of providing illustrations for each topic, including anatomy, pathology, and new technologies. I really enjoyed the illustrations. The new two-color design in general does help highlight details of the images, but I found some of the ultrasound images a bit difficult to view. I also would have enjoyed more review questions at the ends of the chapters. Those who are not yet professionals in the field might have to spend additional time reviewing some of the information on positioning and detecting different densities on a film. Chapter 19 on diagnostic procedures, in particular, is well illustrated, providing images of the different types of biopsy needles that may be used during a procedure. The description of how surgeons use the needles and wires, and for which types of localization, is clear and easy to understand.
Assessment: The illustrations are what really stand out in this book. They are very detailed and whenever a topic needed visualization, an illustration was right there. With so many different views in mammography, the chart on pages 104 to 106 was particularly descriptive in telling readers how to position the patient, where to place the film, and which tissues can be visualized. Although I would have appreciated a few more review questions at the end of each chapter, overall, chapter concepts are outlined well. The references at the end of each chapter and the bibliography would be helpful when writing research papers. The glossary at the back of the book is also helpful. This would be a great book to have, not only in the classroom, but also for on the job learning.
