Meet the Author

Graham Burgess has been a World Chess Federation (FIDE) Master since the age of 20. He lives in Bristol, England.

Dr. John Nunn was among the world’s leading grandmasters for nearly twenty years, winning four gold medals in chess Olympiads and finishing sixth overall in the World Cup in 1989. He lives in Chertsey, Surrey, England.

John Emms is one of England’s strongest grandmasters, and an experienced trainer and editor. He lives in Tonbridge, Kent, England.

    Amazing Bargain: World Class Effort

    A wonderful book: 100 great chess games from the past 200 years, chosen by 3 highly regarded chess authors and players (GM John Nunn, GM John Emms, and FM Graham Burgess). Their criteria for the games? - quality & brilliance of play by both players, instructive value, and historical significance. They annotate the games, computer-check for tactical blunders/brilliancies, provide historical background and summarize 'lessons' learned. The games range from Adolf Anderssen's 1851 'Immortal' and 'Evergreen' games to 1996 Las Palmas tournament games of Vishy Anand and Karpov. This book will not only teach you better chess by showing how to attack, keep the initiative, defend and counter attack, play logical opening moves, prepare for the endgame, but also give you a sense of how the great players have thought and developed over the centuries. Great price too.
