First, the 3 reviews by Ben Bruno and the two anonymous people. Bruno posted the same exact review over at Amazon and writes for T-Nation, a front site for a supplement company. And if you want a really accurate view of this book, head over to Amazon and check out the 1-3 stars. And then look at all the 5-stars written by friends and affiliates of the authors, just like this Bruno guy. I bought this book on Tuesday. Thought about getting the kindle version but glad I bought the book because I’ll be taking it back. Knew there would be problems when I got to the workout b/c I lift at my university gym. It’s big with lots of equipment but no way does this circuit stuff work there. Half the time I’d come back to the equipment and it was being used by someone else and this killed the short rest intervals I was supposed to take. Some of the exercises were stupid. Maybe guys who lift in private gyms or at home will do glute bridges but no way am I humping a barbell when other guys and hot women are around. Didn’t bother with the “alpha” exercises, obviously created to make the authors look cool. They never did explain what makes an alpha deadlift so radically different from a normal deadlift. I’ve lifted since high school. This program is too advanced or missing too much information for beginners and too stupid for intermediate-advanced lifters who go to regular gyms. Breezed through most of the self help fluff on what it takes to be an alpha guy. I was expecting to see a forward written by Dr. Oz instead of Arnold. I can see with all the swearing they thought this crap would appeal to guys my age but it was a stupid gimmick. I just need to turn on my TV to see a drug company commercial about problems with low testosterone. Open any fitness mag or website and it’s all over the place. If you need to read a couple hundred pages to get your T checked then I guess this book is for you. But if you REALLY have low T then this book isn’t going to cut it. Go to a doctor, get real help and it’s going to be from prescribed treatment, most likely from an injection. I’ve done intermittent fasting, didn’t like it. Anyone saying it’s better than me eating my 5 meals day is full of the stuff my dog drops in the back yard. I’m NOT saying intermittent fasting can’t be effective but it’s not superior, just different. I LOL’d at the 36 hour fast though, good luck getting noobs to survive that for long. This book is like Anna Kournikova, looks great but doesn’t do anything. It’s 90% fluff wrapped in a flashy, transparent package. Noticed all those top reviews written by friends of the author referring to them by their first name, nickname, and so on. What a bunch of BS. Tried giving the book to my roommate. He got through the first chapter and tossed it back at me. Said it reads like a Muscle & Fitness magazine. Now I have to buy him a beer with my refund for this book but it’s better than keeping it.

I have read the book up to chapter nine and it a no BS approch to reclam a healthy way of life. I would recomend to all the guy's.

I'm certainly not against foul language in a novel or where it is necessary for a story but, in a book about health a fitness? The language felt awkward and out of place. Certainly he could say improve your sex life with out the F word. Felt like it was written by a knowledgeable but immature teenager. some of the information seemed to make sense but haven't been able to put it to the test yet nor have I done any further researched what is said YET.

Not a good book. If you're part of the "bro" culture, then sure. If you are in any way grown up, don't waste your time or money.

I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of this book. As a fitness professional and a writer myself, I get a lot of books sent my way, and to be frank, most of them are pretty similar and -to be even more frank- pretty boring. Engineering the Alpha is different, and different in a very good way. While it's ostensibly a fitness book, it's really a lot more than that. It's really a lifestyle book, and a damn entertaining and interesting one at that. I could give it all the written platitudes in the world, but to me actions speak louder than words. I read the whole book in one afternoon and actually completely forget about an important errand I was supposed to run because I was so engrossed in the book. Considering I read tons of fitness stuff, that's saying something. And while actions speak louder than words, money speaks the loudest. With that in mind, even though I received an advanced copy of the book myself, I still bought several copies to give out to my friends as gifts. I recommend you do the same.
