Man on a Stringby Maureen Tanya Waller
Her sister, Melinda
Jesmond Brown is a modern Australian woman. The twenty-eight-year-old with stunning red hair and brilliant green eyes is a workaholic. Jesmond has clawed her way to the top of her career in advertising. She thrives on a high workload and expects everyone else to feel the same way. But her perfectionist attitude has cost her yet another boyfriend.
Her sister, Melinda, sends word that she is pregnant and ill. The two sisters are different in every way except for their looks. Jez leaves her plush office in Sydney and goes to the hospital, where she learns that her sister has placenta previa and must stay in bed.
Mel has not been able to contact her boyftriend, Danny. Her letters are returned and his phone has been disconnected. Jez learns that the father of her sister's baby is out in the bush and she is the only person who can find him. She goes looking for Danny, a man she has never met, and eventually finds the scruffy man on a desolate rundown property.
A rainstorm upstream closes the river crossing, forcing Jesmond to stay until it is safe to leave. Jez thinks another man must have spun her sister tales of love, so she makes up fibs to keep hospital-bound Melinda well enough to have her baby. Meanwhile, Jez finds herself more and more attracted to this dratted man!
Maureen Tanya Waller lives in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. Now retired, she worked in public relations, was a buyer for a department store and owned her own ladies' fashion shop.
