WANTED: A MAN TO SLAY DRAGONS. Write Zoe. The ad ran in the mercenary magazine High Risk. To the special agents gathered at FBI headquarters in Tulsa, the message is clear: whoever "ZOE" is, she wants a gun-for-hire. Hate crime specialist Liam Jameson is assigned to investigate. The trail leads to a beautiful Manhattan attorney named Claire Green. She, too, has been summoned by ZOE. And she, like the enigmatic Jameson, harbors a secret too dangerous to share. Zoe was Claire's identical twin, and she died a terrible death at the hands of an unknown assailant. In her memory, the support group Z.O.E. was formed. Women, all victims of violent crimes, came together to share their anger, grief and loss. Now, without warning, the group has taken a startling turn: creating a private lottery, the prize a contracted execution. And their first reluctant winner is Claire. When she discovers that Zoe's death is to be avenged, Claire wants no part of it. But the contract has already been given out - in Claire's name. Her only hope of salvaging her career and her future is to escape the relentless agent on her trail and bring her sister's murderer to justice before the hired assassin strikes. But Liam Jameson will not be shaken. He tracks Claire to her Louisiana hometown - and brings them both closer to a killer who may truly be unstoppable.

The bestselling author of Fair Is the Rose and Lions and Lace brings readers a spellbinding novel of contemporary romantic suspense--the unforgettable story of a woman caught between love and vengeance. Manhattan attorney Claire Green is haunted by the brutal murder of her twin sister, and joins forces with F.B.I. agent Liam Jameson to bring her sister's murderer to justice.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
In the manner of Nora Roberts, McKinney (The Ground She Walks Upon) makes a successful transition from romance to mystery/suspense. New York attorney Claire Green is in big trouble. The victim support group (ZOE) she started after her twin sister's murder has turned vigilante and now plans to eliminate her sister's killer. When reasoning with the group doesn't work, a desperate Claire tries to scare off their assassin, only to come face-to-face with FBI Special Agent Liam Jameson, who has traced ZOE to Claire. In Mardi Gras-crazed New Orleans, where Claire has gone to find the killer, Liam and Claire-hunter and prey-battle one another and a growing mutual attraction. At last joining forces, the lovers try to catch a psychopath before he can kill again, and before the second assassin can destroy their newfound evidence. Well-paced, with strong characters, this novel works as both thriller and romance, though the publisher is aiming it primarily at the romance market. (Feb.)
