Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
This latest addition to the plethora of self-help books about catching, keeping, and taming a man targets feminist career women experiencing difficulties with their men. Women have learned to be assertive, make decisions, and take charge, but these very behaviors often backfire in their romantic relationships. According to the authors, two self-proclaimed dating experts, a feminine communication style, or man whispering, "inspires a man's genetic wiring to provide for you, please you, and satisfy your desires, requests, and needs." More effective than nagging or demanding, this approach uses gentle persuasion, compliments, rewards, and lots of patience. Individual chapters focus on concrete problems, such as getting a marriage proposal, and case studies illustrate what does and does not work. One caveat: the authors' advice is based on common myths—all men are tomcats by nature, lack emotional intelligence, and are short on intuition and memory. VERDICT The ideas here are hardly original, yet the book's enthusiasm and emphasis on a kinder, gentler way of man handling makes it a worthwhile choice for public libraries.—Ilse Heidmann, formerly with Washington State Lib., Olympia
