More About This Textbook

Overview

Effective management of degenerative knee arthritis in the active adult is a controversial and challenging problem facing many orthopaedic surgeons. Since most of these patients are too young and active to be good candidates for total joint replacement, it is often necessary to rely on other treatments. Before you develop your management plan for OA of the knee, take a moment to review these significant new treatment options. This new monograph will help you evaluate all the options and make the most informed clinical management decision possible. This monograph draws heavily from an extraordinary panel of international orthopaedic surgeons from Europe, South America, and Asia who have extensive experience with the treatment of adult OA.

Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Edward Abraham, MD (University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine)
Description: This monograph covers current aspects of osteoarthritis treatment by physicians around the world.
Purpose: The purpose is to compile the experiences of the international orthopedic community and to share the information with others in the management of osteoarthritis. These worthy objectives are met.
Audience: The audience is all physicians and others interested in caring for patients with degenerative arthritis of the knee. The editors, Freddie H. Fu, MD, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Bruce D. Browner, MD, University of Connecticut Health Center, are fully qualified to write on this subject. They are supported by a cast of international contributors from South American, Europe, and Asia.
Features: The nine topics covered include arthroscopic debridement, osteotomy, meniscal transplant, mosaicplasty, second generation autologous chondrocyte implantation technique, unicondylar arthroplasty and total knee arthroplasty. The references are current and the photos and illustrations are most instructive.
Assessment: The book is compiled mainly from an international symposium presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in Dallas in 2002. This collection of international contributions is important since it allows readers to learn from the works of overseas colleagues. Orthopedists caring for patients with osteoarthritis are encouraged to purchase this book.
