Author: Norma Carr-Ruffino, PhD. San Francisco State University Given the subject matter, and where she's from it's what you'd expect. Her arrogant attitude is prevalent throughout this book. The premise of the book can be summed as 'Treat everyone fairly, except if it's politically correct to treat them differently.' Martin Luther King Jr. is rolling over in his grave. The book covers a plethora of statistics regarding how few Minorities hold management positions. It fails to corolate this datum with immigrants of previous generations (Irish, Southern European, etc.) and the management positions they held when they new to America. Also missing in Chapter 7, 'Working with African Americans', was a correlation between statistics of Managers from broken homes, along with statistics of the number of blacks from broken homes. In short, the author mis-uses statistics in order to grind her political ax. To her credit, she does raise a handful of valid points in understanding foreign cultures. In class, I jokingly called this book 'Diversity for White People who think 'Indian' food is Corn and Buffalo.' Frankly, one could get a better understanding of other cultures by spending a summer in a large, diverse metropolis such as NYC, Chicago, LA, Atlanta, etc. One can garner the majority of this book's contents by listening to NPR for about 5 hours.
