    I Also Recommend:

Remarkably good for visually oriented people.

Have you ever noticed that some restaurants (I'm thinking here especially of Denny's) have menus where they have pictures of every single dish they serve, so people who can't read can still order?

This visual dictionary is very like that.

The quality of the photography is very clean and crisp, as one would expect from something published by Dorling Kindersley (DK). Each item shown has Simplified Chinese characters, pinyin romanization, and English. "Over 6,000 words and phrases" says the cover, and I can easily believe it.

Say you go to the Appearance section, and then drill down to shoes. One picture of a shoe shows the pieces and parts -- eyelet/xieyan, lace/xiedai, tongue/xieshe, sole/xiedi, etc. You also get pictures of types of shoes -- hiking boot/buxingxue, atheltic shoe/yundongxie, flip-flop/pingdi renzi tuoxie, etc. (No, I'm not putting in the diacritics for tones; I just don't know enough of how to type that way.)

About the only complaint I have is the print might be a bit small. The photos themselves are generously sized.

Very impressive, and I might use others in the series for other languages to help me teach ESL.
