Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Sharon Oliver
In this title from the series, David Mortimore Baxter tells the reader in hilarious detail about the importance of manners. Chapter one is "David's Who's Who," where we are introduced to David's family, friends and neighbors. They are all involved in David's examples of proper etiquette. For instance, David explains that you should never reach across the dinner table for the salt, or Mr. McCafferty, the grouchy neighbor, might bite your reaching arm instead of his corn. David covers interacting with your neighbors, table manners, how to deal with embarrassing moments, politeness, and movie theater manners among others. David's voice it totally appropriate for his age, and his descriptions of the potential situations that could occur from bad manners are highly entertaining. The book includes a table of contents, glossary, discussion questions, writing prompts, and directions to find related web sites on facthound.com. This is a fabulous book to have in upper elementary and middle school collections, which are always in need of etiquette books that the kids might actually read.
