Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jennifer Lehmann
Classrooms are busy places. All those students have a lot to learn each day! Good manners can help the teacher to teach, and manners make it possible for each student to do his or her best work. The need to use manners with both the teacher and other students is described clearly. Each spread addresses a particular situation requiring manners. A wide variety of manners are discussed, from not talking while the teacher is talking, to cleaning up after a project. When examples of bad manners are shown, the ways to correct that behavior or the related good manners are presented immediately. The use of the same character for both the positive and negative behavior shows that all students are capable of mistakes, but are also able to behave appropriately. This is the most helpful and realistic way to illustrate the situations. This book would be useful in a classroom discussion about manners, but would also clearly deliver its message if read by an individual. A table of contents, glossary, and index make the information more accessible. A list of suggested readings and the Facthound website provide for further exploration of the topic.
