The third edition of the popular book Manual of Aphasia and Aphasia Therapy is now available. This comprehensive text covers the assessment and treatment of adult aphasia by speech-language pathologists. It is targeted at clinicians working in acute and post-acute settings who are likely to interact with people with aphasia. It focuses on the theoretical and research underpinnings and the practical application of a wide range of treatment approaches. This major revision of the Manual of Aphasia and Aphasia Therapy includes 8 new chapters with a significant amount of new, up-to-date information. The Manual of Aphasia and Aphasia Therapy, Third Edition also includes a DVD that contains printable forms, appendices from the text, the Test of Oral and Limb Apraxia, an observation rating form, and clinical materials. Video excerpts demonstrate treatment methods and assessment of individuals with various types of aphasia.
I have greatly enjoyed using this as the textbook for my neurogenic pathologies of language course. It is much more accessible than other textbooks - very easy to read and understand, but without watering down the information given. At times the organization seemed a little bit haphazard, but every chapter is packed with informative and relevant information. Definitely a good choice for students or general readers, and would likely be helpful for professionals or scholars as well. I know that I am planning on keeping it to use later in my profession.
