Doody's Review ServiceReviewer: Donald R. Krawiec, DVM, MS, PhD (University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine)
Description: This soft-cover book, one in a series on canine and feline diseases from the British Small Animal Veterinary Association, covers a wide range of specific problems relating to canine and feline urology and nephrology.
Purpose: The purpose is to concisely review the nephrology and urology of the dog and cat. The author states that it "...will be invaluable achieving a better understanding of the logical approach to the diagnosis and treatment of these problems." These worthy objectives are met by the editors.
Audience: The author states that this book will be welcomed by veterinary clinicians and students. I agree with this assertion. The book is written by 15 specialists in their fields, from Great Britain and the United States.
Features: The book is superbly illustrated with clear photographs line drawings and tables. The book is divided into three sections. The first describes a clinical approach to problems, the second outlines techniques to allow accurate confirmation of diagnosis, and the third discusses disease management. I found this approach appealing. It allow easy access to information. References are adequate and current.
Assessment: This is an up-to-date review of the material presented and I would recommend it to practitioners and students.
