Manual of Herbaceous Ornamental Plants based on 0 ratings. 3 reviews.
Fabulous book. Great Information and excellent color pictures
This is a great reference book for anyone who has a series interest in ornamentals. I found the line drawings to be helpful, and loved the appendix of what type of plants to use for different gardens 'shade, butterfly, full sun, deer resistant, showy flowers...' I had a bigger problem with Armitage due to the fact that his information is so concentrated to the NE US/Can that is was not as helpful for my classes. Stills's book, however, is one I continue to reference.
This was a required textbook for us. The information is a little out of date, and not as well written as Armitage's manual. Flipping back and forth to find the color picture of the plant you are looking up gets old. There are mostly just line drawings. For the southeast, I'd recommend Armitage over Still as the authority on herbaceous ornamentals.
