Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 5-9-Pratt traces the evolution of mapmaking/cartography from ancient times to the present, and provides a brief look at ``mapping the future.'' While the historical coverage is extensive and lucidly presented, including an in-depth section on Ptolemy, the discussion of modern map-making techniques and reading is less thoroughly explored. The two-column format and the profusion of full-color and black-and-white photographs and reproductions add to the volume's readability and visual appeal. It will be especially useful in classrooms using an integrated approach to teaching history and maps. An informative source for reports and general reading.-Douglas K. Dillon, Lakota Freshman School, West Chester, OH
