I received this book as a gift on my 21st birthday. After reading a good amount of literature and talking with other bartenders, I feel confident in saying that this book is a great guide for beginning bartenders. It shows you all of the basics of bartending from glass type, to ingredients you will need the most, to essential equipment used in bartending, to preparing drinks with garnishes. It even includes illustrated techniques for shaking and mixing drinks, creating zest, creating garnishes like boats, wheels and wedges, layering drinks and more. It then goes on to explain a little history of each type of alcohol along with some popular examples followed by popular recipes and variations for the vast myriad of the most common drinks 'even the non-alcoholic ones'. The only thing I found lacking in this book was some of the newer drinks like the Irish Car Bomb and the Birthday Cake Shot. I would also recommend you buy other books that include details about the other aspects of bartending such as how to use and set up a bar area as well as the storing and purchasing of ingredients and conduct of a bartender. If you plan on making it a career I would also suggest researching your state and local laws to figure out what the laws require as far as documentation and what training is necessary. Otherwise, this is a very easy to use guide on the basics of bartending and I would recommend it to anyone new to the art of bartending. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
