Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Marco likes to run, but as he takes his jog through the park he wishes he could run like a rabbit or perhaps a bobcat, better yet, a cheetah. Ruffins has pictured the animals on the left while the right hand page shows Marco running with a similar style. After this outing Marco is pooped and he stretches out on his bed to take a much-earned rest. A simple story with an urban setting that should appeal to boys and girls just beginning to be comfortable reading on their own. A "Green Light Reader," level 2 for grades 1 and 2. 2001, Harcourt, $10.95 and $3.95. Ages 6 to 8. Reviewer:Marilyn Courtot
School Library Journal
K-Gr 2-Two serviceable easy-readers. Marco's Run features an African-American boy who is jogging through a city park. As he moves faster and faster, he imagines himself to be various swift animals, such as a rabbit, a bobcat, and a cheetah. Splash introduces two clumsy bears that have fun playing in a fish-filled river. Both books have short sentences, simple vocabularies, and colorful illustrations that tie in well with the texts. However, the stories lack verve, and Marco's Run, in particular, may not hold the attention of children.-Anne Knickerbocker, Cedar Brook Elementary School, Houston, TX Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
