Mardi Gras in New Orleans [Rounder]

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Steven McDonald
First of all, this compilation is produced by Scott Billington, a guy who has become Rounder Records' link to all that's hot and tasty in New Orleans never mind the rest of Louisiana. Aside from the rest of an impressive list of credits, he has produced several excellent compilations prior to this effort, mostly focusing on Cajun and zydeco of fairly recent post-1970 vintage. It's still a splendid collection, however, with a great deal of energetic rumbling and thumping, and a strong brass band presence with the ReBirth Brass Band and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band amongst those showing up. Definitely a worthwhile party album, with excellent choices and effective sequencing -- and no sign of "Iko Iko."
