Whitelaw discusses her subject's childhood and early influences; marriage and children; work as a nurse and midwife; contraceptive research; her pamphlets, papers, magazines, and books; the Brownsville Clinic trials; her divorce and remarriage; and her involvement in Planned Parenthood, both in the U.S. and abroad. The author begins each chapter with bits of trivia-events, people, inventions-that made news during each period of Sanger's life. There are no source notes.
