All Music Guide - Ashley S. Battel
This extremely impressive debut is replete with smooth-sounding ballads and uplifting dance/R&B cuts. Carey convincingly seizes many opportunities to display her incredible vocal range on such memorable tracks as the popular "Vision of Love" featured during her television debut on The Arsenio Hall Show, an appearance noted by many as her formal introduction to stardom, the energetic "Someday," and the moody sounds of the hidden treasure "Vanishing." With this collection of songs acting as a springboard for future successes, Carey establishes a strong standard of comparison for other breakthrough artists of this genre.

    Mariah The Greatest DIVA Ever

When This album was released in 1990 i was 16 years old and Mariah blowed my mind away her incredible voice captured me forever and today after stunning 16 number#1 hits and a new album The Emancipation Of Mimi my diva is back to her self. I love her debut album it´s the best with Emotions, Music box,Merry Christmas and Daydream, she released Butterfly in 1997 and after that her career began going towards after devorsing Thomas mottola the former president of sony. 3 albums since Butterfly has not helped her career until now and it´s one of her finest works. Mariah has incredible vocalrange of 7 octaves that will send chills down your spine and this album that is now 15 years old still sounds great i recommend all new fans to buy this album because she was at her best then and today she will capture new audience with amazing songs like We Belong Together her 16 no#1 hit and 7 weeks on the billboard top 100 charts, shake It Off and A ballads that blow you away. My favorit songs on this amazing album are. Someday, Vision Of Love, Love Takes Time, I Don´t Wanna Cry, All In Your Mind, There´s got To Be Away, Alone In Love, Vanishing, Prisoner, You Need me and the last song send From Up Above all the songs are great and Mariah works with popheavies like Ric Wake(Celine dion,Anastacia,Taylor Dayne) Narada Michael Walden(Whitney Houston) and longtime partner to be Walter Afanasieff(Celine Dion,Barbra Streisand,KennyG,Michael Bolton,Lara Fabian,Josh Groban,Clay Aiken and many more)I recommend this album to all fans of Mariah and Celine.

    A Soul Star Is Born

I have never heard music more beautiful than Mariah Carey's. Her tear-jerking ballads, such as "Vision of Love" are classics. But there's another side to this album; a defiant Mariah comes on scene with "Someday" and "Prisoner." An absolute five-star album, well-worth every penny.

    What an awesome debut album.

Mariah Carey the biggest selling female artist in history sold over $150 million albums worldwide and got stunning 16 no 1#singles more than any other female artist in history,Mariah has amazing voice she rocks and this album profes how incredible artist she really is.I Love Mariah Carey she is my fave singer with Celine Dion no one can belt out their voices like them except Barbra Streisand and Aretha Franklin.Mariah was the new Whitney Houston generation in 1990 and i think Mariah sounds stonger than Whitney does on her first album and ever since and today Mariah doesn´t sound so powerful as she did in the early 90,s but she can belt out her amazing voice if she wants to.Mariah should do more albums like this one,Emotions and Music Box that is her best work to date.My favorit songs on this great album are All the 11 songs and that is just incredible work and that the first album should sold 14 million copies worldwide vow that shows us how talented miss Carey is.My all time fave on the album are Vision Of Love,There´s Got To Be Away,I Don´t Wanna Cry,Someday,All In Your Mind,Alone In Love,Prisoner and Love Takes Time.I Recommend this album to all Mariah Fans and nonfans.Mariah is not just amazing singer she is also a songwriter and producer.
