Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Suzanna E. Henshon
New Orleans suffers from a yellow fever epidemic, and thousands of people are dying every day. Marie-Grace's friends are ill, and her father, Dr. Thaddeus Gardner, is busy treating patients all day long. One day Marie-Grace is devastated to learn that Mademoiselle Oceane, her singing teacher, is deathly ill. Mademoiselle has just become engaged to Uncle Luc and they are planning a summer wedding. But as Mademoiselle grows weaker and weaker, Marie-Grace fears the worst. Marie-Grace stays by her teacher's side, but there is little hope for a recovery. Just when all hope is gone, Mademoiselle recovers from the yellow fever. Soon Mademoiselle Oceane and Uncle Luc are planning a quick wedding and Marie-Grace is invited to sing a song in their honor at the event. Marie-Grace is a wonderful addition to the "American Girl" series canon, and young readers will enjoy the storylines connecting Marie-Grace to her best friend, Cecile. In this unique series, readers can experience the events from the joint perspectives of two best friends. This unusual storytelling feature allows readers to step back in time through two identities, gaining a wider understanding of historical events. Reviewer: Suzanna E. Henshon, Ph.D.

    Great! But...................................

The samples should give more of the story. Two chapters at least. The stories are a 5 stars, but the short samples are only 4 stars. But other than that I TOTALLY recommend it
