All Music Guide - Steve Leggett
Larry MacBride founded Marimac Records in 1984 as a refuge for old master fiddlers, young fogie string bands, and under-represented Cajun and blues musicians, and he released some 100 recordings on the label before his death in 1993 from cancer. This sampler on Rounder Records collects some of the highlights of that nearly ten-year run, including Clyde Troxell's gentle banjo take on "Wild Bill Jones," the Volo Bogtrotters' chiming, airy "Elkhorn Ridge," Matokie Slaughter & the Back Creek Buddies' "Saro," and an easy-rolling version of "Lucille" by Cajun band the Bone Tones. The final track features MacBride with Half Shaved on the traditional ballad "False William." ...

As a testament to the continued strength of the contemporary old-time music scene, and to MacBride's unique vision, this well-sequenced anthology is definitely worth a listen.
