Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Beverly Kobrin
At maturity, the sea's prime predator can be from six inches and a few ounces to 60 feet and 20 tons big; white, black, brown, green, purple, blue or polka dotted; and second only, perhaps, to dinosaurs for "grabbing" kids-as you'll discover when you put within easy reach Keith Elliot Greenberg's Marine Biologist in the fine "Risky Business" series for younger readers. It's a colorfully illustrated introduction to Dr. Sonny Gruber's research, discoveries and experiences during 30 years of swimming with and studying sharks.
School Library Journal
Gr 2-4These three titles are sure to be popular with readers who like action and adventure. Each one focuses on an individual who has a hazardous occupation. Bomb Squad Officer features African American Timothy Hajj, and other unnamed men who remove and dismantle or detonate suspicious objects in Newark, NJ. Brief mention is made of the bombings in Lockerbie, Scotland; the World Trade Center; and Oklahoma City. Marine Biologist features Dr. Sonny Gruber, who has studied sharks for the past 30 years. Photojournalist John Isaac, a native of India, is an official photographer for the United Nations. This brief title documents his work in Sarajavo, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Nepal, Lebanon, Iraq, Southeast Asia, and the Persian Gulf. In all three books, the large print is inviting and the large, full-color photos are of excellent quality and well captioned. The "At Risk" series (Crestwood) has some similar titles, but is on a slightly higher reading level.Eldon Younce, Harper Elementary School, KS
