    Excellent book

    My husband got this book since he was a Marine in the past. This book was all he could talk about with its originality and content being so real. This is an excellent book!

    Not Just For Marines

    While this book illustrates the remarkable life of Lt. Gen. Lewis B. 'Chesty' Puller, it is much more than battle stories. Puller is considered a 'throw-back' to some, but he was in reality way ahead of his time. These days many are calling for troop withdrawal from Iraq, Puller is quoted from some fifty years ago in this book on the very subject of withdrawal. He was an advocate for finishing the job of war. He saw his son return from Veitnam after loosing limbs in fighting. He saw other men loose thier lives and Puller himself was wounded in battle. He knew the horror of war, but he believed that if you do fight, fight to win. He also commented that America had grown soft and warned of invaders coming to our country in the future. This book illustrates just how much of a sage Puller was. 'Chesty' was the real deal, a real 'Rambo'. He has been called 'A Marines's Marine'. The most decorated Marine ever! He was tough on the enemy and he believed in total victory much like his hero 'Stonewall' Jackson. His Marines suffered heavy casualties, but he was more times than not at the point and he would not order his men to do anything that he himself would not do. Burke Davis weaves a fantasic story of a fantastic American warrior. It follows Puller from childhood in Virginia to his early days fighting in Haiti, to WWII, to Korea, & finally his retirement from the Corps. This is not a glorification of war. In fact it paints anything but a glamorous picture of it. What it does glorify is courage & commitment. Good read for anyone.

    I first read about Chesty while serving in the Corp. I still to this day read this book one or more times a year. He is a great man and reading his book gives me the courge to fight cancer.

    A Marine's Marine

    The General has made the modern Marine Cops what it is today. He set the standard for all Marines to follow. This book captures the real General Puller. Semper Fi.

    The amount of stars that Chesty deserves!

    The life of Chesty Puller, how the man made the Marines look good. The man deserves better respect that that he got from his fellow Marines. Politics and people of higher ranks ruined his career. Long live the Legacy of Lt.Chesty Puller!

    For all proud of their nation!

    This book has to be one of the most motivating books I've ever read. It's about a great man,and military leader. I suggest to anyone, read this book, and any others on Chesty Puller, and learn how to be!

    Leadership is essential

    Every American should own this book. It displays the undesputedly greatest military leader of The United States of America. I have nevermore been so motivated before, during, nor after reading any book.

    What a real Marine should be

    This is a book that I loved. One of the greatest I've read in military nonfiction to date. I loved the way that the auother caught the greatness of General Puller without bringing in the political coils that brought him down into the story. I recommend to everyone that likes biographys that you read this book and especially those who know the special place that Chesty has in the heart of every marine and every aspiring marine.

    A nearly unbelievable account of the life of an Old Corps Veteran.

    This bio links Puller's roots, which run deep into American history, to a boyhood that cultivated this Marine legend. Follow Chesty from his early battles in Haiti to his victories in Peleliu. A very detailed account of a life that represents 'Old Corps' in every way. Stunning, to say the least.

    A Must-Read

    This book needs to be required reading for leaders in the Marine Corps, Navy, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, you name it. Anyone who aspires to lead men, whether in combat or in civilian life, should learn to apply Puller's rules for success: lead from the front, display total moral and physical courage, and above all, take care of your people. The book is filled with examples of Puller looking out for the often-overlooked grunts who put themselves in harm's way and do the dirty work. The book is a great instruction manual for breeding loyalty among your organization, and also does a great job of covering the 'Banana Wars,' World War II, and the Korean War.

    Excellent leadership and character. A True Marine Hero

    I can't say enough about this book. I plan on being in the military, and I've read many non-fiction works on the service. This is my favorite, and I've read some excellent books. Chesty Puller was and is a true hero. He represents all that the Corps should be. His inspirational leadership and character have impressed me beyond belief. This book should be read by all who are interested in the military, leadership, war, or anything of the sort. Chesty's insights on the state of the military should be used to guide how it is run today, and his leadership traits should be the goal of most any military officer. Definately read this book.

    The Best book about WWII History

    I have read this book just this week and it is the best book about WWII and the Marines. It is hard to impress me this much. This book is great for you if you love War History and what it needs to take to become a Platoon leader. Now I am only 14 but I have read a lot of World War II books and this book is my favorite.
