Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Many, many books have been written for children about Earth's habitats. Most have colorful photographs; many are well written. This book shares those attributes; but the author's experience as a writer and veteran high school and college teacher makes it especially appealing. Readers will be intrigued to learn about the many zones into which scientists divide the ocean and the various organisms that inhabit each. The author describes some of them in fascinating detail. Salt marshes, estuaries and swamps are saltwater habitats as well; they, too, teem with life both mundane and extraordinary. This book provides solid background information that encourages further exploration. Back matter includes an extensive glossary and index. This is part of the "Books About Biomes and Habitats" series. 2004, Watts Library/Franklin Watts, Ages 8 to 12.
