    A reviewer

This book, along with others in the '...for Everyone' series by Tom Wright, has enhanced my understanding of the Gospels more than anything else I've heard or read in over 30 years as a Christian. There are so many sayings, parables, and stories that have always puzzled me or troubled me, and Tom Wright does an excellent job of opening up the world that Jesus and the early Christians lived in, and explaining these books in their historical context. Yet it's not just a dry, academic book, but one that is understandable and relevant, and broken up into small pieces that I easily have time to read as a daily devotional or as I get a few spare moments here and there. It has challenged me to re-think who Jesus really was and what that means to my life, as well as freeing me from some of the false understandings I've had based on Mark and the other Gospels.
