Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jean Boreen
This book is part of the "Super Bowl Superstars" series focused primarily on football players who are not only great in their positions but are also humanitarians in some way off the field. In this case, the focus is on Mark Sanchez, the quarterback for the New York Jets, and his work on the field as well as with the juvenile diabetes foundation and the Hollenbeck Youth Center in Los Angeles (a center that organizes events that help children stay out of trouble after school). The book contains nine chapters that focus, alternately, on Sanchez and his quest to become a quarterback, the games in which he led the Jets to upsets and finally, Sanchez's work with the charities and foundations that mirror his work ethic of striving to be the best one can be. Text boxes throughout the book highlight information about Sanchez and the charities for which he is an advocate. Photographs of Sanchez in action by himself or in various games as well as when he serves as a spokesperson add to the text and certainly motivate readers to pick up the book. As with all solid series, this book and its counterparts have a well-developed glossary, bibliography, and "Read More" section. Also included is access to a website about Sanchez and the Jets that provides more information for younger fans. This text, and the series in general, provides football fans with a quick and interesting look at one of their favorite players in a book that they should be able to easily read and understand. Reviewer: Jean Boreen, Ph.D.
