About the Author

Hello! I'm Julie and this is my partner and illustrator, Rylie Kerns. Without her, Markie and Toby would still be just manuscripts on my hard drive.

You see, I wrote all 3 manuscripts for Markie back in 2017 and then spent years trying to find the right artist. I posted ads on professional and student artist boards and all sorts of graphic artist forums until I finally got a response from Jill Kerns. She said her daughter was really good at drawing animals and would I consider working with her?

So I emailed Rylie my horrible stick figure sketches of what I was looking for (and believe me, a sheep and a sheep dog are not easy to render as stick figures). And soon I got pictures back and oh man, I couldn't believe it! There was Markie and Toby smiling back at me!

Did I mention, as of this publication, she is 14 years old? Unbelievable, right?

Yes, God gave me the words-I just typed-and Rylie gave me these amazing adorable pictures. She was an absolute Godsend and I can't wait to see what she does with book #2: "Markie at the County Fair".
