Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
We remember Lassie and Rin-Tin-Tin affectionately, but no dog ever licked his way into our hearts more completely than Marley. John Grogan's uproariously dysfunctional pooch climbed onto bestseller lists and toppled movie box office records. Then misfit Marley scampered successfully into children's book departments with Bad Dog, Marley and A Very Marley Christmas. This picture book is an adorable yarn about a lovably peculiar four-footed student.
Children's Literature - Nicole Peterson Davis
Cassie has everything ready for the first day of school. So does her dog, Marley. He fully expects to go along. So, he is not happy when the family put him in the backyard while they walked with Cassie to school. He digs out of the yard and follows her scent right into the school. There, he has quite an adventure, finding the copy machine in the office, the hotdogs in the lunchroom, the drums in the music class, and even the mice in the science lab. Unfortunately, Marley is not able to find Cassie anywhere. Teachers try to catch him, but the children help him stay hidden until the end of the day. Marley really gives a new meaning to the phrase "Teacher's Pet! The story is delightful, but the real splendor of this book is the art work. From a chewed pencil to the highlights in Cassie's golden hair, these illustrations are beautifully realistic. Reviewer: Nicole Peterson Davis

PreS-Gr 3—Marley, king of misbehavior and digger extraordinaire, is back. Cassie is all set for her first day of school, and he decides to join her. "'You silly dog,' she tells him. 'School's for kids, not dogs.'" But, of course, this isn't any dog. This is Marley. He escapes the confines of the backyard and follows her scent to the school. Once inside, hilarity and chaos ensue as Marley discovers the copy machine, cafeteria, science class, and gymnasium. It isn't until he runs outside during recess that he finds Cassie and the rest of the family, who have been searching for him. The colorful illustrations capture the exuberance and charm of this energetic animal and the humans in his life. The characters' facial expressions are priceless, and readers will enjoy following Marley's trail of destruction and mayhem through the pictures.—Lisa Gangemi Kropp, Half Hollow Hills Community Library, Dix Hills, NY

Not as great as I expected!

Bad Dog Marley is such a cute book, we were expecting more from Marley goes to school! Pictures are bright and colorful, but story was a bit lacking.

Marley - For A Younger Crowd

The runaway hit that was "Bad Dog, Marley", leads to this follow-up for a younger crowd to enjoy. Marley is no different in this story, so you know that chaos will ensue. You gotta love Marley, though, for all his spirit and enthusiasm for everything he does. School will never be the same!

    We love Baby Louie

Bad Dog Marley has been one of my grandchildren's favorites so it was greaat to add another adventure about Marley. The illustrations are a story on every page with plenty to talk about . They are ages 3-7, boys and girls and they all love the stories. They LOVE Baby Louie and repeat his phrase, Bah Woo Woo Waddy, over and over as I am reading.
