Reviewed by Wajeeha Jalil for Readers Favorite In "Marmaduke" Margaret Pearce tells the tale of two young boys, Billy and Rusty, and an adventure that involves them and Billy's pet mouse Marmaduke. The story opens with the two friends working together on fixing Billy's bicycle. They head out for the day, looking for spare parts for Billy's bicycle, when they come across a mysterious metal box in the junkyard. The box contains two capsules. As a result of an ill-fated accident, one of the pills affects Marmaduke and ultimately all the animals in the town. It is up to Billy and Rusty to rescue Marmaduke and bring order to the situation, or everyone might be in danger! And they must do so without letting anyone find out the real cause of all the mayhem. "Marmaduke" is a very well-written story. It captures the imagination and involves the reader to such an extent that you find yourself worrying about the pet mouse and curious to find out how the boys would save the situation. Margaret Pearce writes with an easy fluency that is very important in books for young children. She has an eye for detail that makes it possible for the reader to see each and every situation in his or her mind's eye. The book is well-paced, never boring the reader. The plot is interesting and captivating and the language simple and easy to understand. I would totally recommend this book for children!
