Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Great sex, write the Arps (10 Great Dates Before You Say "I Do"), is "much more than sexual intercourse"--it's "developing and nurturing a love life" that fulfills you "physically, emotionally, and spiritually." In the face of "time zappers" like kids, careers, or disorganization, the authors suggest communicating honestly and carefully and making one's spouse the priority. Tactics and practical tips (hint: foot rubs) balance other sections filled with the Arps' own considerable wisdom. Though a bit restrictive in that it targets heterosexual couples with children, this enjoyable guidebook has plenty of how-to. Marriage coach Fertel skillfully inverts the usual solve-the-problem approach and instead asserts that deep, euphoric love will (like magic) make problems go away. Instead of finding the right person, Fertel writes that we should build a lasting love with the person we found. Marriage is being there for your spouse in thousands of small ways; some surprisingly sound methods, e.g., give your spouse a "positive verbal interaction" for a minute or more five times daily, help couples fall back in love. Readers will practically hear Coach Fertel shouting clear, consistent instructions. Both books are excellent choices for public libraries. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.

It doesn't just SAVE your marriage, it Rebuilds It!

I think this is an incredible book. Mort's whole Marriage Fitness Program is amazing. It helped me understand what my spouse was thinking, it inspired us to try new energy sharing techniques like emotionally connecting throughout our days, physically connecting at any given moments, whether just a soft touch of the face, or that of sexual intimacy. It taught you how to deal with those 'i'm through' thoughts and how to feel inspired to embrace each other again. We ended up feeling like teenagers in love by the time we finished the program and it rekindled what we had lost, but taught us how to keep that energy going just by considering the emotions and needs of the other...by the time it was though i felt like he'd do anything for me, but more so i wanted to do anything for him, because you could just feel the amazing consideration building between us once again. It's a marriage SAVER but an Enhancer as well...I would recommend this book to those looking to SAVE their marriage as well as those looking to Enhance it through new insights, as well as singles looking to break old habits that lead to breakups or for those that feel that they just can't seem to find mr. or mrs. right.

This is a book every married couple should read before they even think they have a problem.

I happened upon this author very late one night as a possible website for making your marriage "Fit". I was actually going through a difficult time so, I signed up for the e-mails, which have been wonderful. I immediately ordered the book. WOW! Mort's insight, examples, true compassion, and commitment to helping marriages improve and stay together being truly in love is inspiring.
The other thing about the book is it also helps with relationships other than your marriage. Learning what real love should be is something missing in the world today. Loving others is meant to be something more than we are experiencing.
The book is a very easy read and has step by step processes for you to go through. It's not just reading, it's doing. Something he tells you about love, it is action!!
I have and will continue recommending this book to others married and unmarried as I feel it is of benefit to anyone interested in learning to really love.

I'm seriously so grateful for Marriage Fitness I had to leave a review even though I normally wouldn't. My marriage was feeling more and more on the rocks and my husband and I were at a point where the fighting had stopped and the resentment had set in. We saw a therapist once but then he refused and told me he wouldn't go back. It felt like things were hopeless and they were but then someone told me about Mort Fertel and his whole counseling system. I figured there wasn't anything to lose so why not try something. Couldn't hurt, right? Well, the Marriage Fitness book 4 Steps to Building & Maintaining Phenomenal Love did what nothing else could do. Even without my husband on board, I learned different ways to improve our marriage. It started with little things at first but then he became more receptive and actually started showing some appreciation for me again. This was over a year ago and today I wouldn’t say everything is completely better, but it feels like a new marriage. So, even if your husband doesn’t like the idea of therapy or thinks counseling is stupid, this might work for you. The best thing I learned was the fact that marriage is a skill. Mort explains that you need to practice it just like anything else and just because loving your spouse doesn’t come easy doesn’t mean your marriage is broken. This review is even longer than I meant for it to be, but I just wanted to say that Marriage Fitness has been a huge help for my marriage and I would highly recommend the book (He has a DVD or CD set too but I haven’t bought it yet).

    Not to the point...boring

Chapter after chapter the point was never made. The author kept indicating that he was going to explain certain points, but after reading numerous pages I was still waiting for his point(s)...this book did nothing to help me with my issue!
