"I have always loved a good mystery that keeps you guessing with twists and turns. And, I also love learning about the Amish and all things Amish. Who could have imagined a book that has both! I loved it. I really couldn't put in down until I was finished. I just had to know how the story would end. It is no wonder that Mary Ellis continues to be my favorite author."

Excellent read that doesn't tarnish the mind and spirit

I discovered author Mary Ellis' work this past Fall and realized that she writes a very interesting fictional account of life in the Old Order Amish community. A Marriage for Meghan is the third book of Ms. Ellis' I have had the pleasure of reviewing. Meghan is a petite 19 year old Amish young lady that aspires to become a teacher in the district's one-room Amish school house. But Meghan has to overcome her past reputation as a prankster and flighty child and teen before she can be entrusted with this responsibility by the sober Bishop (her father) and other leaders of the community. Factor into the story a young suitor that Meghan has known all her life and who really doesn't want to wait around while she achieves her dream. We learn that the Englischer world is not alone in heartbreak. However, evil enters into this calm, serene world of mild-mannered families serving God in the form of hate crimes, vandalism, and arson bringing perplexity and anxiety to the heart and mind of those affected by it. Undesired by the Bishop, local law enforcement arrives and a FBI Special Agent is sent to solve the problem. I recommend this as an excellent read that doesn't tarnish the mind and spirit of the reader. I received Marriage for Meghan directly from the author as a donation for our school's library. I reviewed it as a courtesy for her donation and was not required to write a positive review.

    Meghan is a Gem

Being a schoolteacher is her dream, but can she handle a classroom when she still seems like a kid? Her father would rather she marry; does he really think marriage holds less responsbility? Her earnestness and high spirits don't always go hand in hand as she tries to prove herself to the skeptics. When a crime spree brings FBI Agent Mast to town, Meghan's relationship with him keeps the pages turning.

    Highly Recommended-- A must Read

A Marriage For Megan is AWESOME it is definitely a must read, once you start this book you will not put it down until the very end, and you will be wishing you had the next book in the series, I just wanted it to go on and on. You will fall in love with Megan she will just steal you heart. Megan finds out that with Prayer anything is possible, even teaching a room full of unruly children, but she can handle it.

This is a book worth reading, I plan to reread book one and two and wait patently for book three

a wonderful look at the Amish culture

In Shreve, Ohio, Mrs. Joanna Kauffman will soon have to leaver her position as the teacher at the Old Order District Amish School due to her pregnancy. Nineteen year old intelligent but immature Meghan Yost wants the job. However, the Elders including her father the bishop has doubts that flighty Meghan can control a class when she cannot control her own impulses. They decide to give her a chance when her older sister Catherine agrees to come home to serve as the head teacher with Meghan as her assistant while waiting for her betrothed Isaiah to complete school in Kentucky.

As the siblings learn on the job, Meghan alienates her best friend Jacob Schultz who wants to court her. Additionally someone vandalizes Amish property and the school is trashed, which leads Wayne County Englisher Sheriff Strickland and FBI Agent Mast to investigate the hate crimes.

The second Wayne County tale (see Abigail's New Hope) is a wonderful look at the Amish culture as for instance the Bishop upsets his peers when he calls in the outsider to investigate the attacks and Meghan's brothers turn the other cheek against an assault. The story line is character driven by Meghan but ably supported by her family, her former beau, the students and several Englisher. Although the villain's motives are left passive, fans will enjoy the return visit to the Yost family.
