Martial Hearts is a book that needed to be written.  It is an emotional roller coaster and has some hot button moments but through it all is the underlying messages that everyone deserves respect, BDSM is about safe, sane and consensual, and that abuse is abuse no matter the lifestyle and there is a way out.  I’ll admit there were moments I thought I would put the book down as it was too painful but as I read on through the joy on the other side made it worthwhile.
Mia Michele is a “new to me” author but you can bet I will check out the next book in this series.

There is just something about a well written strong woman that has struggled and refused to let her past impact upon her life. And then there is the strong woman who believes she has it all figured out until she meets her match. Both of these are wonderful role models no matter your age or your experience because one has a never say die attitude and the other lets her world be rocked and changed when she meets “The One.” For me as a reader I adore the first but tend to gravitate more to the second because let us be honest we all long for more or are thankful we have our guy.

This story’s heroine, Mina Cavanaugh, is just like the second example. She is strong, determined and thinks she has it all figured out until she visits The Club for a bachelorette party for her best friend. She meets Damon Fijord after an aggressive Dominant pursues her even after she tells him she isn’t interested. Damon not only gets to play knight in shining armor but also is subjected to Mina’s opinion about the BDSM scene. Instead of her opinion turning him off it rather impresses him.

The sending of flowers to Mina’s work by Damon the following morning makes this girl fall a little more in love with him before the end of chapter 2. There is just something special and thoughtful about receiving flowers in part because it implies a thinking beyond the moment of meeting but required energy and money to make it happen. So yeah, Damon is pretty amazing in my books.

Mina’s best friend, Jane plays a pivotal role in this romance and I love her concern and care that she shows to Mina as a best friend and role she assumes in pushing Mina beyond her borders. Every person on the planet needs a friend like this especially if you have ever been pushed to the limit of yourself.

This book does contain BDSM but tend to stick to the softer side and is more about Mina’s learning how to trust and open her heart up again. In the end, trust is the key to both of their hearts. They have to learn that they can rely and depend on each other when the world comes crashing in on them from both sides. These portions of the book are wonderful. They show yet again that there are as many forms of BDSM as there are genres of Literature or flavors of chocolate. One flavor might not suit a person but another may be a perfect fit.

Ah yes, and the heat between Mina and Damon is mind meltingly good. These two are perfect for each other. She needs to trust and he longs to have someone trust him implicitly. She longs for her independence but wants companionship. He is able to give her space and yet support her when challenges arrive. In other words, a perfect pairing.

Final Thoughts: This story has so much going for it and is a wonderful entry into a new series. I can’t wait to see where this series goes in the future. Congratulations to Ms. Michelle for a wonderfully created world and characters that make me want to meet them for lunch.

Fated Desire Publishing provided me with a gifted copy of Martial Hearts but nothing else was exchanged for my honest review.

This riveting BDSM club romance captivates the reader with characters that seize the heart.  Mina’s built her life around a very strict set of rules that keep her safe, but when she’s pursued by Damon, a dominant, she’s forced to choose between the life she created and the one she wants.
This steady to fast paced and smooth flowing plot draws the reader into a troubled young woman’s life and the man who would do anything to protect her.  The author brings the story to life with well written scenes and details that capture the imagination and draws the reader deeper into the story.  The characters are strong, compelling, easily understood and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning.
The attraction between Mina and Damon radiates from the pages from their very meeting and the sex scenes are hot and steamy, but the romance is shadowed by Mina’s past and her mistrust and misunderstanding of Damon’s lifestyle.  The reader can’t help but get caught up in Mina’s story as she tries to overcome her heartbreaking past and find her happily ever after and the reader can’t help but be drawn to Damon, a dominant who is strong enough to work with Mina and stand by her as she learns her way.
The story is an emotional read that explores the concept that everyone deserves love and deserves to live their life without prejudice as long as it is consensual. I must warn the readers to be sure to have plenty of tissues on hand as you will be moved to tears, some in sadness, some in empathy and some in happiness.
