Night is falling, and it's already been one LONG day for Peter Parker. Between Emma Frost coming into town, and a mysterious new supervillain, and his kind-of girlfriend Chat maybe being something other, or something more, than she's been pretending, Peter would love to call it a night. But when he finds out that Midtown High's newest teacher, Jack Russell, has been kidnapped along with a group of other people, it's up to Spider-Man to get Jack out of trouble, and away from the other hostages, and to do it FAST. Because Spider-Man has just received inside information that Jack Russell is a werewolf, and night is falling.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Michael Jung PhD
When readers left Spider-Man in Marvel Adventures Spider-Man: Thwip! he was battling the Torino Gang, and wondering if his girlfriend Sophia "Chat" Sanduval knew about his secret identity. Now, Spidey's problems are multiplying as the Torinos put a contract on him, forcing Spider-Man to battle dozens of thugs every day. Fortunately, help comes in the form of the Blonde Phantom, a crime fighter who wants Spider-Man to join her private investigator agency. Things also improve when Peter's girlfriend Chat admits she knows Peter's secret, and reveals her own special powers. But just as Peter's life starts looking up, he learns the X-Men, a team of mutants, may take Chat away—and that someone has erased all of Chat's memories of him! Collecting issues #58-#61 of Marvel Adventures Spider-Man, these adventures of a teenage Spider-Man (which take place in an alternate reality separate from other Spider-Man comics) offer plenty of action, romance, and drama. Although Spider-Man is the main protagonist, the story is also about Chat (a likeable character who can talk to animals) who matures from an insecure girl into a confident young woman capable of standing up for herself. Peter also faces his own dilemmas as he considers the ethics of making money as Spider-Man and wonders if he can continue his relationship with Chat. Unfortunately, the digest has a few flaws as it skips an issue (Marvel Adventures Spider-Man #57), which introduces the story's villain and includes Chat's confession. Tobin also works with several artists who depict the characters differently in each issue/chapter. Nonetheless, Tobin's fun storyline still makes Peter Parker vs. the X-Men a great read for Spider-Man fans. Fans will be pleased to know they can keep reading Peter's adventures in the new Spider-Man: Marvel Adventures comic (which will also be collected in future digests). Reviewer: Michael Jung, PhD
