Overview

This richly illustrated book provides step-by-step instructions for the construction of over 30 different modular origami structures. The author describes basic folding techniques required to construct the “modules” that are used as building blocks to construct complex ornamental models. The diagrams are clear, crisp, and easy to follow, and are accompanied by inspiring color photographs. Additional tips encourage the reader to design their own original creations.

Advance Praise for Marvelous Modular Origami

"A must-have for any modular origami polyhedra enthusiast."
-Rona Gurkewitz, co-author of Multimodular Origami Polyhedra

"The models are paper folding in its purest form. They range from simple Sonobe to floral and geometrical constructions. All are eye-catching and satisfying to fold, and the finished constructions are pleasing to behold. Also included are short sections on the mathematics behind the shapes and optimum color choices."
-David Petty, author of Origami A-B-C

"In this colorful book, you'll find wonderful original origami modular creations. Meenakshi's clear instructions and helpful hints will have you zipping through these modules as well as improvising your own."
-Rachel Katz, co-author of FUN FOLDS: Language Learning Through Paper Folding

"Marvelous Modular Origami is a colorful addition to the literature of mathematical origami."
-Florence Temko, author of many origami and other craft books

so many ways, origami is the perfect activity for young children. Using only simple movements that even young ones can master at a high enough level, students can create beautiful things. The pot is made even sweeter by the fact that the cost of the raw materials is so low. By practicing first using printer paper, the students can hone their skills before moving on to the development of the finished product. This book contains some of the best and most functional origami patterns ever developed. The end results are spectacular and the directions are very easy to follow. I got this book after browsing through the author's well-known website for modular origami. It's a very nice book explaining how to make great looking modular balls. The diagrams are very clear and well described with pictures showing how the modular unit should look like in each step. Being just over an year old in the origami world, I got stumped a couple of times but seeing the diagram of the next step helped me figure out the fold. All I needed was a little bit of practice and a bit more patience. For beginners like me, it's a good practice to make one unit using a printer paper and understand all the steps. Also, I recommend reading the 'Homogeneous Color Tiling' section of the book if one is using multiple colors for making a model. I believe even a beginner, after getting a bit familiar with the basic origami diagrams, can fold the models in the book as there are no complex folds involved. I highly recommend this book. And if you are into polyhedra and floral models, it is a must.

One of the most accessible English language books on Modular Origami I own. Cheery and colorful presentation invite the reader to try his/her own hand at creating interesting polyhedral shapes. Important information often overlooked in similar books, such as recommended paper size and recommended paper type, are included. This helps the budding origamist obtain the optimum result for each model.

This is a great book on modular origami with fresh designs ranging from simple to intermediate. Full of color photos and diagrams, it is certainly worth one's money. It has a reasonable amount of assembly instructions as well, more than other modular creators care to explain. Some minimal experience with modular origami is expected, though. Can't wait for a sequel!

This book looked like fun, but contrary to the blurb, it does not give good instructions on how to assemble the models inside. There are instructions on how to assemble the pieces, but not how to put them together to form the finished product. Use this book for new ideas after you've already mastered folding polyhedrons.
