Overview

The "Cornerstones of Freedom" detail important events in United States history. Children are given the sense of being witnesses to history-in-the-making and contemporaries of famous people who helped shape the United States into the world power it is today. Starting with the Spring 1992 titles, a brand-new format has been introduced using more photographs (many in full-color), historical engravings, and an easy-to-read typeface. Many popular previously published titles will be updated in this new format. Each book includes an index.

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 2-4-These revised editions offer solid information. The insights into Reverend King's early life will aid readers in understanding how these years laid the foundation for his role in the civil rights movement. Mary McLeod Bethune, the 15th and first free-born child of former slaves, determinedly devoted her life to educating African Americans. Both titles include five short chapters simply written in respectful styles. The illustrations of the earlier editions have been replaced by average-quality, black-and-white photographs that lend historical perspective and validate the texts. Both volumes include updated lists for further reading and Web sites.-Pamela K. Bomboy, Chesterfield County Public Schools, VA Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.
