    Not for a beginner

I am new to embroidery and was looking for a book to help me master the basic stitches as well as learn some other stitches. First of all, this book relies more on lengthy sentences to describe how to do a particular stitch than step-by-step photos. Each stitch has one 'photo' which is really just a line drawing of needle and thread illustrating just one of the few steps of how to do the stitch. The rest is all words. Secondly, this book is not for beginners. Most of the stitches are overly complicated and difficult to learn due to the lack of step by step photos. Thirdly, about a third of the book is devoted to embroidering on canvas 'a wide cross stitching type fabric' which is something I simply don't due nor have plans to. If you are a beginner and are a 'visual learner' this is not the embroidery book for you.
