Excellent character development and intriguing storyline. Dana Davis keeps her readers wanting more and certainly feeds the literary senses with The Mask of Tamirella. I highly recommend this book for the young and the young at heart.

Caitlanna Mullen is on a mission. As part of an archeological team on a dig in dangerous, possibly toxic territory, she is obsessed with finding pre-destruction treasures that eluded her late father. Too young to be a 'finder' Caitlanna must be content with the lesser status of 'striker,' a disadvantage that rarely keeps her from jumping headlong into danger and adventure. Thanks to the guidance of her aunt, a wise and wonderfully-wrought character, the girl begins to learn to think first and control her impulses. The secrets eventually revealed to her are not what Caitlanna anticipated, and she begins to suspect that nothing, not even her own world, is exactly as it seems. An exciting journey, a great read!

This is foremost a fun, fast read! The main character, a sixteen year old girl, faces consequences for an artifact she stole from another Sanction, which is like a village. She and her Aunt, among others from her Sanction, are sent on a dangerous archeological dig. In a post-apocalyptic world, she and her group face mutants, toxic waste and sickness as they travel to the dig site. Once there, she is confronted by more sickness, jealousy and teen hormones in her search for a prized artifact. The characters are well-drawn, the plot is full of twists, turns and a few surprises. A very satisfying read!
