Enjoy the practical advice, real-life knitting instruction, and irreverent humor of Yankee Kay Gardiner and Tennessean Ann Shayne, the duo behind the renowned knitting web log masondixonknitting.com. The ladies of Mason-Dixon Knitting will take you on a thrilling adventure through Knitopia, a place where knitting and creativity unite through the zaniest knitted items imaginable. Kay and Ann reveal that a pattern is a starting line, a launching pad, the front doors of Saks the day after Thanksgiving: oh, the potential!

Mason-Dixon Knitting is a collection of unbelievable patterns, a how-to manual, and a crazy quilt of hilarious narrative, all in one. In this book, Kay and Ann chitchat their way through a series of more than thirty incredible patterns. Drawing creative inspiration from their surroundings, they present colorful blankets, sassy nightgowns, a delicate curtain, and much more to reveal that knitting can weave its way into just about every aspect of life. Most of these projects are the epitome of ease, but you can make them as simple or complicated as you prefer.

Kay and Ann invite you to use your creative vision to interpret each pattern and give it your own personal touch. Full-color photography of these delightful home- and family-inspired knits accompanies each project. Along the way, Kay and Ann will introduce you to incredible knitting personalities, share their own knitting experiences, and present eye-popping knitting phenomena. Fun!

I have to start by saying that I don't know which photos Beth saw that didn't have corresponding patterns I'm fairly certain I saw a pattern to go with each picture. I think this book is well-written and full of great ideas! Mason-Dixon Knitting is a blog I had never read before their book was released (I'm anxiously awaiting Wendy's book - and Crazy Aunt Purl, will you write one too, please?), but Ann and Kay are clearly very enthusiastic and a lot of fun. I have already knitted the Baby Kimono, and it is darling. Ballband Dishcloth? Made one. It's a fun knit. And I am so intrigued by the Log Cabin method and the Moderne blankets, I think I might soon be knitting my first afghan. Warning: there are a LOT more home accessories than wearables in this book. If you're not into home accessories, you may not enjoy it so much.

Great book for beginning knitters as well as pros.

Even if you don't knit, this book is a great read -- very humorous and moves through the patterns at a nice pace. The patterns themselves are wonderful and great for beginners. Most are garter stitch and, best of all, most of the patterns call for inexpensive cotton yarn. Simple patterns that produce lovely pieces.

    I Also Recommend:

I love this book! It's a great introduction to the world of knitting.

I first came across this book at my local library and enjoyed it so much I rushed to my local Barnes & Noble store to get my own copy. To my joyful surprise the authors had a second book out (Mason-Dixon Knitting Outside the Lines) which I also purchased and love dearly. The writing syle is highly entertaining and inspirational. Knitting is demystified and explained in can-do terms. The pictures are great. The projects are simple and practical for home or for gift-giving. This book is a modern classic for every knitter.

    Excellent

I found this book to be very entertaining but also very inspiring. The Log Cabin afghan is wonderful as are many of the other patterns and ideas. This is a delightful couple of gals and their blog is hilarious.

    AWESOME!!!!

This is a must-have book for knitters. The color photos are simply amazing. I love the humor in the book as well as the stories behind the projects that are presented in the book. I found several projects that I intend to knit. The projects shown have clear instructions. The projects are also items that I will definitely use around the house. I plan on making the ball-band dishrag and the log cabin blanket.

Can I give it 17 stars?

I loved loved loved reading the blog and now I love love love knitting the book. I am a beginner (only been knitting since October '05) and some of the patterns have been challenging BUT I give it a little patience and make sure you have some back up books or skilled friends for reference and you'll be set. I am working on a mitered square blanket AND Mason Dixon After Dark...

    Not impressed

Way too many glossy photos, many of which feature knitting objects that do NOT have corresponding patterns in the book. This is not a book for beginners. If you want a coffee table book with some little vingettes to read about, this is for you. If you are looking for patterns, get a different book.
